Description: This position will be responsible for providing a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for the children while they are in the Head Start environment (classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips).
Develop individual goals for children, provide on-going assessment on progress and facilitate transition into Head Start or other pre-school settings.
Support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program.
Maintain on-going contact with families and work with all other components (health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education and resource/referral) to integrate services into the family setting.
Must meet requirements per Federal Head Start TEACHER • Flexible and adaptable to change and/or able to acquire the necessary skills to work in a creative and demanding environment including the ability to problem-solve and manage ambiguity and adversity.
• Ability to work in an open, fast-paced, nontraditional agency under high pressure and sometimes competing deadlines.
• Ability to demonstrate cooperative behavior at all times and communicate well with all levels of staff, supervisors, children and families.
• Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Computer literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills.
• Ability to work with adults, children, and network with outside agencies • Ability in organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating day-to-day activities.
• Self-directed.
• Ability to effectively manage a group of children.
• Ability to identify a child’s special needs.
• Must have a warm and supportive attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families.
• Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
Requirements: Required Education and Experience Early child education Associate or a CDA and 12 ECE credits (Early Child Education).
Experience in child development minimum one year Experience in classroom setting preferably with infants and toddlers minimum one year Additional Requirements Knowledge of Early Childhood Education and child growth and development Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability in organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating day-to-day activities.
Ability to identify a child’s special needs.
