*Center for Children’s Advocacy seeks STAFF ATTORNEY FOR INNOVATIVE MEDICAL-LEGAL PARTNERSHIP PROJECT AT YALE NEW HAVEN HOSPITAL* The Center for Children’s Advocacy along with Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale Law School were recently awarded a highly competitive federal grant to expand CCA’s Medical-Legal Partnership Project (MLPP) in unique and exciting ways.
For the first time, the federal government distributed 18 month funding to only 8 sites around the country as a way to showcase innovative partnerships which could serve as models for future support.
The Center for Children’s Advocacy (CCA), is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting for the legal rights of Connecticut’s most vulnerable children.
It operates MLPs at three sites including CCMC, YNHH, YCSC with a mission to focus on health equity by improving health outcomes for low income children who are patients at these partner health institutions as well as to address issues of health equity and health disparities in the state’s pediatric and young adult population.

_*Description of Position*_ CCA has an immediate opening for an attorney to join the staff of its nationally recognized interdisciplinary MLPP, while working closely with our partners at Yale Law School’s Solomon Center for Heath Law and Policy and Yale New Haven Hospital under an innovative grant for expanding access to underserved communities.
The attorney will provide legal consultation and direct legal representation in selected cases to families referred by physicians and other clinical staff; provide legal consultation directly to medical providers; train hospital staff (physicians, social workers, and community health workers) on children’s legal rights and entitlements; and help to strengthen the advocacy efforts of both physicians and the community on systemic health policy issues affecting children and young adults.
The attorney will work closely with the Director of the YNHH’s MLPP and the Legal Director of Yale Law School’s Medical Legal Partnership at the Solomon Center for Health Law & Policy.
The unique features of this grant include training and outreach through a Community Health Worker who will be added to the interdisciplinary medical/legal team as well as legal assistance from Yale Law School students.
_*Qualifications*_ We are seeking an attorney who has demonstrated commitment to provide quality legal representation for children and families in need and who is skilled in providing advocacy through public policy as well as traditional litigation.
Candidates should have extensive knowledge of poverty law including special education laws, housing, disability law, public benefits, and SSI.
Candidates must possess excellent communication and writing skills; demonstrated interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration; and a passionate commitment to legal advocacy for at-risk children, youth and families.
Knowledge of the health field is preferred.
Applicants should have a minimum of two years related legal experience and be admitted to practice in the state of Connecticut (or be eligible to waive into the Connecticut state bar).
_*Salary/Benefits*_ Salary range from $69,200 to $78,800 a year depending on experience.
CCA provides generous health, disability and paid time off benefits and eligible employees may participate in a 403(b) plan with employer contribution.
