5 Work Week Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) Work Location Central Campus Worksite Address 221 Whitney Avenue New Haven, CT 06511 Work Model Hybrid Position Focus: Reporting to the Senior Director, Employee Relations (ER), Investigations and Compliance, the Associate Director, Investigations and Compliance, plays a key role in developing and implementing strategy, response and resolution of serious misconduct and policy violations and organizational culture and climate concerns.
Oversight: Assesses concerns and complaints based on origin, nature and complexity and assigns appropriately to ensure timely response, objectivity, and integrity of the investigation.
Formulates and operationalizes best practices for case-handling, investigation, and case management, including investigative procedures, monitoring case-handling activities, and recommending appropriate changes to procedures and ensuring compliance with governing policies and procedures.
Ensures ER team is following best practice investigation techniques and protocols.
Assesses and develops investigation competencies of HR partners.
Provides expert guidance and support to the ER team and other university units responsible for fact-finding and resolving complex concerns.
Designs and delivers investigation and risk management training and resources for HR and university stakeholders.
Ensures matters are addressed consistently with the University policies and practices.
Oversees the implementation of appropriate resolutions and interventions.
Oversees HR process and protocols for triage, assignment, investigation, and resolution of university hotline reports in partnership with the Office of General Counsel and University Auditing.
Case Management/Investigation: Manages complex investigations related to serious misconduct and policy violations, including, but not limited to, violations of the Institutional Standards of Conduct, theft, fraud, and misuse of university resources.
Independently investigates highly confidential matters involving serious misconduct and policy violations.
Facilitates coordination with appropriate university offices, including, but not limited to, the Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility, the University Privacy Office, the Office of the Postdoctoral Affairs, University Auditing, and Yale Police Department.
Effectively presents investigation findings, conclusions, and recommendations to university leaders.
Independently produces comprehensive, written reports of investigation findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Culture Champion: Establishes and follows best practices to conduct climate assessments and culture reviews to identify areas for future focus.
Influences university leaders to address problem environments and formulates related action planning.
Advises and coaches university leaders and other stakeholders to resolve disputes.
Risk Management: Analyzes data to identify investigation trends or recurrent issues.
Anticipates issues, identifies areas of policy or procedure implementation or revision, and recommends, analyzes, and partners with HR and university leaders to develop new policies and protocols informed by investigation and risk management activities.
Consults on investigation outcomes including recommended disciplinary actions, changes in employment status and other interventions.
Represents the University in administrative and legal proceedings, as appropriate.
Serves on university teams and committees, including, but not limited to those addressing risk management, investigations, and employees of concern.
HR Leader: HR thought and practice leader; Serves on ER leadership team.
Sponsors or leads ER or HR committees and initiatives.
Leads teams HR Business Partners during periods of transition or complexity.
Essential Duties 1.
Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas.
2.
Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility.
3.
Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives.
4.
Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility.
5.
Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
6.
Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies.
7.
Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
8.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field and eight years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1: Demonstrated ability to conduct complex investigations and preparing detailed, thorough and accurate investigative reports.
Ability to manage complex situations, particularly those requiring a high level of discretion.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders.
Required Skill/Ability 2: Demonstrated proficiency in strong critical thinking, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work well under time pressure.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze data, understand trends and design recommendations based on investigation findings and in accordance with governing policies and procedures.

Required Skill/Ability 5: Proven coaching, counseling, mediation, investigatory and conflict resolution skills.

and six (6) years experience conducting workplace investigations.
